1. Why do you want to join Charterhouse Shenzhen?

Charterhouse has a vision for student learning and holistic development built on a research-based understanding of how young people think and learn, and the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive in an ever-changing future. This educational philosophy – developing students’ knowledge, thinking, learning and life skills so that they can thrive in leading universities and in their future lives and careers – has been at the heart of my professional practice for the last twenty years. This type of education is particularly useful for Chinese students today, given the opportunities they will have with China as a leading international country in the twenty-first century, and this makes Charterhouse a very appealing educational environment to work in.

2. What contributions can you bring to Charterhouse Shenzhen?

What matters most to me is to bring out the best in other people, whether they are students, teachers or other colleagues at the school. What we want to create at Charterhouse is a vibrant team of staff with a professional learning culture and a commitment to working with students to achieve the highest standards of learning and personal development.

While much of my professional career over the last thirty years has focused on developing the highest standards of teaching and learning in schools, and on students’ achieving the best possible results, my recent work has been specifically focused on UK-curriculum schools in China, including constructing curriculums which combine the best of UK and Chinese education and developing high quality academic programmes for Chinese students so that they can thrive in leading universities overseas.
